Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) is a package of six services provided to children upto 6 years of age. The research has proved early years of child's growth are very crucial and important. During these years his needs for balanced growth are required to be addressed properly. Thus supplementary nutrition, immunization growth monitoring and health check-up etc are the major areas where the ICDS focus on. Simultaneously Pre-school education games and oral exercises are performed to help the child to grow properly. The Punjab Council is running three such ICDS Projects at Tarsikka (Amritsar), Sidhwan Bet (Ludhiana) and Bathinda covering rural as well as urban areas.
Besides following schemes are implemented in these blocks; (1) Swayamsidha (2) Bebe nanki Ladli Beti Scheme (3) Kishori Shakti Scheme (4) Indira Gandhi Matritava Sehyog Scheme (5) Beti bachao beti padhao scheme (6) Pension for old people, widows, destitute women and dependent children.
Swayamsidha Scheme : Child Welfare Council, Punjab is running Swayamsidha Scheme in all the 3 ICDS Blocks being run by the Council at Sidhwan Bet (Ludhiana), Tarsikka (Amritsar) and Bathinda. This scheme was launched by the Govt. of India to uplift the women financially, particularly in rural areas. Under this scheme, Self Help Groups have been formed. The members of these Self Help Groups are engaged in stitching & embroidery, Beauty Parlour, Mushroom farming, Neel Making etc. Sponsorship Programme Child Welfare Council, Punjab gives grant to the poor, needy and handicapped students to pursue their studies.
